Equipment

  • 2 small saucepans

Ingredients

  • 2 oz whiskey bourbon or rye
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • whipped cream optional
  • chocolate shavings or coca powder optional

Instructions

  • Begin by heating the milk in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir it occasionally to prevent it from scalding. Be patient; you want it hot but not boiling.
  • In a separate saucepan, combine the chopped dark chocolate and sugar. Melt the chocolate over low heat, stirring gently to combine it with the sugar.
  • Slowly add the hot milk to the chocolate mixture, whisking continuously to create a smooth, velvety liquid.
  • Add a pinch of sea salt for enhanced flavor, along with the vanilla extract, stirring until fully incorporated.
  • Now comes the star of the show: the whiskey. Pour in 2 ounces of your preferred bourbon or rye, and give it a gentle stir to combine all the elements.
  • Pour the Whiskey Hot Chocolate into your favorite mugs, leaving room at the top for garnishes.
  • Finish off your masterpiece with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of chocolate shavings or a dusting of cocoa powder.
  • Sip slowly and savor. This drink was meant to be enjoyed leisurely, just like a fireside chat.
