Buffalo Trace Origins
Buffalo Trace Bourbon is a product of the Buffalo Trace Distillery, one of the oldest and largest distilleries in the United States. The distillery is located on the banks of the Kentucky River in Franklin County, Kentucky. The distillery traces its origins back to the late 1700s, when Hancock Lee and Willis Lee started distilling on the site where a buffalo migration route crossed the river. This ancient buffalo trackway that crosses the Kentucky River in Franklin County, Kentucky, is what gives the distillery its name.
Early Years
The distillery changed owners and names several times over the years. It was known as the Old Fire Copper (O.F.C.) Distillery under Edmund H. Taylor in 1870. Later, it was known as the George T. Stagg Distillery. The distillery survived Prohibition by making whiskey for medicinal purposes. It was during this time that it was acquired by the Sazerac Company.
Modern Era
In 1999, the distillery was renamed as the Buffalo Trace Distillery, in tribute to the mighty buffalo and the pioneers who followed them. The distillery has a rich history of legendary bourbon makers, such as Albert B. Blanton, E.H. Taylor Jr., Elmer T. Lee, and George T. Stagg. It has won many awards for its bourbon whiskey.
The Buffalo Trace Bourbon
Buffalo Trace Bourbon is an award-winning American whiskey, produced by the Sazerac Company. It is one of the most recognized and beloved bourbons on the market, due to its unique flavor profile and smooth finish. The recipe for Buffalo Trace dates back to 1787, when it was first made at George T. Stagg’s distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky.
Legacy
Throughout the challenges of floods, fires, tornadoes, and even Prohibition, the American family-owned Buffalo Trace Distillery has never compromised. A timeless dedication to respecting the past while fearlessly innovating for the future has served them well for more than two centuries. No matter the challenge, be it Mother Nature or man, the people of the distillery have been part of the story that shaped America and the spirit industry as well.
In conclusion, Buffalo Trace Bourbon is not just a drink, but a testament to the resilience and innovation of the human spirit. Its rich history and unique taste make it a favorite among bourbon enthusiasts. Whether you’re a bourbon connoisseur or a casual drinker, Buffalo Trace Bourbon offers a taste of history in every sip.
